ActivID CMS works based on the following key mechanisms:

ActivID Card Management System allows organizations to replace traditional insecure static credentials, such as passwords, with digital identities securely stored on smartcards that make any attempt at unauthorized access to them impractical.

By using ActivID CMS, organizations can easily and securely issue and manage certificate and public key credentials, dynamic passwords, biometric credentials, and demographic data. These credentials will be able to be stored both on smart cards similar to credit cards and on special USB devices.

An important component of the system is the ActivID Client, the interface module between the system and smartcard holders' workstations. This component automates the process for the user and secures access to resources, so the only thing left for the user to do is insert the USB device or smartcard into the reader and type the PIN code associated with the device or smartcard. Users of the solution also benefit from a secure portal where they can change the device's PIN code or recover it, in case it has been entered incorrectly repeatedly, thus ensuring the operability of the solution.
